Ariyan & Yen tied the knot officially at city hall back in January and they decided to hold an intimate backyard party over Memorial Day Weekend. There was not one, not two, but three mini (unofficial) but definitely sentimental ceremonies – a Chinese tea ceremony, an Indian ceremony and an Iranian ceremony.
Everyone was all smiles all day. Want to see for yourself? Keep on scrollin’ friends.
First up was the Chinese tea ceremony. Chinese tea ceremonies are traditionally to show that they have all become relatives; by giving each other tea, you become family.
Family members all took turns giving the bride and groom advice. Most of the time, it ended in a roar of laughter.
After the tea ceremony, there was a quick “costume change,” so Ariyan & Yen could be adorned with the proper Indian wedding ritual attire.
After trying the Mangalsutra, the couple takes 7 steps around the holy fire. After which, they are legally husband & wife. Now, Ariyan & Yen already got married back in January at City Hall, so this was all fairly unofficial. However, you can bet their friends and family made them do the 7 laps around the fire as opposed to the 3 they anticipated doing.
One of the final steps is rice being put on the heads of the couple as a symbol of good luck.
Next and lastly is the Iranian ceremony. All the Iranian women in the family gather around the couple while holding a canopy over them. Sugar is ground over the canopy, symbolizing a sweet life together. On one end of the canopy, a thread is sewn into it, symbolizing “sewing shut the lips of the mother in law” (more specifically the mother of the groom). Funny enough, the mother of the groom was the one sewing this thread. It was all in very good fun – as you can see, it was smiles all around.
How can we forget: $$$
After all the ceremonies concluded it was dance time: part 1.
I’m not sure how Ariyan always knew where the camera was, but he was very quick to pose. This was the result.
Ariyan & Ryan threw bang-snaps/poppers/whatever you call them during their down time
You know we had to do fireworks too.
Dancing part 2, commence!
It was a beautiful, funny, light-hearted night. Fun was had by all 🙂
